The wetting behavior was strongly affected by the structural and energetic changes from amorphous to nanocrystalline states, so were the atomic diffusion and interfacial reaction. The plausible correlations among the wetting behavior, the structural change, and the interfacial reaction were addressed. (c) 2010 American Institute of Physics. [doi:10.1063/1.3399767]“
“This study aimed at testing the applicability of mannitol salt agar (MSA), a medium generally used in human medicine for differentiating

Staphylococcus aureus from coagulase-negative staphylococci (CNS), for culturing bovine-associated CNS species. All test LDK378 isolates from a comprehensive collection of well-identified CNS species, including both reference strains and field isolates, were able to grow. Subsequently, bulk milk samples and teat apex swabs were used to examine the capability of MSA for yielding CNS under field conditions. Sixty-nine and 47 phenotypically different colonies were retrieved from bulk milk and teat apices, LDC000067 ic50 respectively. The majority of isolates from teat apices were staphylococci,

whereas in bulk milk, staphylococci formed a minority. After 24 h of growth, recovery of separate colonies of CNS was much more convenient on MSA compared to a non-selective blood agar. The results of this study indicate that MSA is a suitable medium for both growth and recovery of bovine-associated CNS. (c) 2013 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.”
“Most newborns with congenital unilateral facial palsy are expected to recover; however, when a patient has hearing loss, underlying developmental ear structure abnormalities should be investigated, particularly when the patient has internal auditory canal stenosis, which is rarely reported in newborns. All cases

of internal auditory canal stenosis are accompanied by concomitant unilateral or bilateral hearing loss, but none with progressive hearing loss has been reported. We present the case of a newborn with rapidly declining hearing in the left ear within 1 month after birth. The hearing decline was associated with unilateral facial palsy. Using high-resolution computed tomography (CT) of the temporal bone, we diagnosed the patient with congenital internal auditory canal stenosis. This is the first case check details detected with progressive hearing loss after birth, which implies that prompt diagnosis and early habilitation are warranted, even when the hearing loss is initially mild.”
“Recent advances in crop research have the potential to accelerate genetic gains in wheat, especially if co-ordinated with a breeding perspective. For example, improving photosynthesis by exploiting natural variation in Rubisco’s catalytic rate or adopting C(4) metabolism could raise the baseline for yield potential by 50% or more. However, spike fertility must also be improved to permit full utilization of photosynthetic capacity throughout the crop life cycle and this has several components.
